Site was down, it's fixed now!

Some of you may have noticed our site was down for about 12 hours, this was due to a major issue with an international network backbone provider and beyond our ability to control or repair. It has been fixed (if it goes in and out for a bit don't worry, it will be completely stable soon).

Big Ten Network Caught in Carriage Skirmish

Buckeye fans who also subscribe to cable in parts of central Ohio may be without access to Ohio State football games, warned the athletic director for the university in Columbus.

In a letter sent this week to backers of the Ohio State University athletic program, Athletic Director Gene Smith warned that negotiations between Big Ten Network and Time Warner Cable have not resulted in a deal for carriage. Smith called the lack of an agreement "disheartening" given that the college sports network will carry Ohio State's opener with Youngstown State and a Sept. 20 match with Troy University. Big Ten Network also may deliver Ohio State's conference opener with Minnesota.

"While negotiations are ongoing with Time Warner, it appears very unlikely that an agreement will be reached before the first game of the year, and anything beyond that is problematic," Smith said in his letter.

Smith pointed to alternatives, including DISH Network and DIRECTV, as options for getting Big Ten Network and the Buckeyes' football games.

Fox is handling negotiations for Big Ten Network. In a statement, Time Warner Cable said no one should jump to conclusions about a pending deal,

"It appears the university is not being fully briefed on the status of the negotiations," the statement said. "We've had positive discussions with Fox in recent days, including the active exchange of proposals. There is no stalemate or breakdown in discussions as Smith's letter would have our customers believe."

Inmarsat Satellite Launches from Baikonur

Inmarsat's newest satellite, the Inmarsat 4 spacecraft, launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan late Monday night, a mission that's being called a success by the mobile satellite company and those conducting the flight.

The bird, which will support the company's mobile broadband efforts, is the third in the company's I-4 constellation. The launch caps a decade of investment for the company totaling $1.5 billion.

The current constellation of Inmarsat I-4 satellites delivers mobile broadband services to 85 percent of the world's landmass, covering 98 percent of the planet's population. The third I-4 will complete global coverage for Inmarsat's broadband services.

Inmarsat satellites support the communications needs of shipping, oil exploration, defense and aviation industries. The company also supports media organizations around the world.

Sonicview 360 Elite PVR

Just got this Sonicview 360 Elite to test. Its Awesome!!!!! Easy to setup and Fast channel scans. With its dual tuner you can record one show while watching any other channel at the same time. Not just the channels on the same transponder.

From the time I took it out of the box it took approx. 20 min to completely setup including adding a USB hard drive to it to use for recording. You can update the flash via USB (has 3 USB connections- 2 on the back and 1 on the front) or with a null modem cable.

The only issue I found is that during playback of a recorded show the display showing the time left, etc. is always showing on the bottom of the screen. I am sure they will address this in a future software update. All my other PVR units cost a lot more than this unit, so if your looking for a PVR and are strapped for cash I would strongly recommend this unit. The unit also has a great Picture in Picture function which allows you to watch 2 shows at the same time. Great for sports or porn, or watch both at once!

The Sonicview Elite and Premier 360 receivers differ only that the Elite is dual tuner and the Premier is single tuner, both are PVR's when combined with an external USB hard drive.
